Of the total population of Muscat, 60% are Omanis and 40% are expatriates. The expatriates account for the maximum labour force working in the city. 71% of the population in the city is in the age group 15-64 with the average age being 23. 10% of the population is illiterate. Arabic is the predominant language of the people of the city and Islam is the dominant religion.
